G6 Pitch Contest | Speed Pitch Challenge

How do you clearly communicate an idea that could change the status quo, in just three minutes?

This was the real challenge facing Hanke's sixth-grade students this semester. Unlike traditional classroom assignments, the Pitch Contest asked students to step outside their comfort zone, identify genuine problems within their school environment, and develop concrete, actionable proposals through firsthand observation, research, and data analysis, then present their findings to the principal and teachers within a strict time limit.

Student proposals spanned multiple aspects of school life, including the addition of physical education classes and a reconsideration of the daily schedule. On the topic of dismissal time, students went beyond personal opinion and cited research data to support their argument. The physical education proposal drew on the scientific link between physical activity and cognitive function, making the case that more movement during the school day leads to greater focus and better academic performance.

Throughout the preparation process, students learned how to define a problem, evaluate information, structure an argument, and defend their position under questioning. This entire journey served as hands-on practice in critical thinking and effective communication.

At Hanke, we believe education is not simply about the transfer of knowledge, it is about nurturing students' ability to notice problems, take initiative, and engage others with confidence. The G6 Pitch Contest is a direct expression of that belief. It reminds students that their voices deserve to be heard, and that their ideas have the power to create change.
